Behind this face and scarred ears hides the character of a wise soul – one who's endured a dreadful amount of pain and suffering in her lifetime. She was found in an awful state in an apartment in Lower Sackville. Her ears had huge masses in them, with so much dried blood she could barely hear her rescuer approach. The vet tells us it must have caused her difficulties and pain for most of her life. Two surgeries later and being forced to wear a cone for ages, Lexxie's been given a clean bill of health and now awaits her forever family. She was obviously malnourished and is clearly grateful for every kindness. She's living right now with three lovely female students who give her TLC and lots of love. And she accepts and deserves it all! She's been spayed and tested negative for feline disease and treated for parasites. She feeling all better now and is the most patient, laid-back cat you can imagine. The vet guesstimates her to be around 5 years old. This old girl can learn new tricks – why don't you give her a try?"

Here is what her xmas foster mom had to say about her:

"Ah, sweet Lexxie. />

Ziggy has been tested for feline diseases (negative), treated for parasites, vaccinated and neutered. He is about 5-6 months old.

Below is a bio from his foster parents:

"He's very playful with any and all objects, regardless of size. He doesn't scare easily, loves exploring and meeting new people. I have yet to hear him hiss or see him bush his tail defensively. He has a deep affection for water on any surface, and will promptly jump into the sink or bath once you're done. Make sure you keep the toilet lid down, too!

While I haven't had a kitten full-time in awhile, I'm amazed at the energy level this little guy has stored. He plays happily by himself, but loves the company of playing while someone else is near. I could see him responding reasonably well to a kitten of a similar age and energy level, and probably a dog as well. He's as bold as he is fearless; he has the attitude of a puma and he's still just a kitteny-teenager.

Luckily, he does calm down a few times a day. In those moments, he's sweet and generous with affection. He loves curling up on your lap, or falling asleep against you, or even crawling across your keyboard seeking your affection. While he doesn't like being picked up most of the time, I think
it's because he's interpreting your action as a sign to start playing. This is largely why we called him Jaws. He can be purring while he's chomping down on your fingers.

However, I have just read that kittens can exhibit biting and nibbling when they're growing, and it can almost be likened to teething experienced by humans. Come to think of it, maybe Jaws is part shark, part dog.

Jaws loves to eat, and he will eat and/or lick everything he can. He is climbing on the table and counters less than when he arrived, but somehow this kitten will still lick peanut butter, chocolate or even frosting from a can. I can see this little beast having a hard time managing his portions, so I usually feed him a fixed amount per meal instead of letting him just
eat how much he wants anytime. He is very endearing when he eats, as he takes a few bites, comes to see you and give thanks (via purrs, head-butts, and rubbing himself against you), and then returns to eating. This easily happens 2-3 times during each meal.

Other notes:
-He loves scratching posts, and ALL toys, but shows preference for crinkle balls, straws, and twine-wrapped mice.
-He's only really vocal when you get home after being away for more than an hour, or when you're about to feed him.
-He would be best suited for a larger apartment or home, or at least compared to where I live. He loves to run, chase you, have you chase him, etc. He could use more space to do this."

Please let me know if you could provide this little ball of energy with his forever home.

for more information, please click />

Beatrice was recently rescued on a cold winter day from an abandoned colony of cats in north end Dartmouth. She tested negative for feline leukemia, has been spayed, vaccinated and treated for parasites. Here is what her foster mom says about this sweet beauty:

"Beatrice is an extremely affectionate cat who loves to be cuddled. She doesn't like spending too much time alone if you're at home. She is definitely a lap cat, and anytime you are reading, doing homework or on the computer she is right there on you just wanting to be pet. She loves to play

fight sometimes, but she never bites, she only puts her teeth on your skin then licks you right after. She loves wet food and gets sooo excited every time you go to give her it. She is very vocal and likes to be heard, if she is unhappy with you shutting your door she will stand outside of it and "tell you so" haha. She doesn't get up on counters or tables unless you put
her on them and she loves sitting on the heater in our house when she's cold. She is honestly such a wonderful cat and anyone would be lucky to have her. I recommend placing her with someone who doesn't already have pets because she enjoys being the centre of attention in the house."

for more information, please click here

The fellow lived in a squalid shack set in the woods, just off a busy road. When the cats weren't dodging the speeding cars, they were fleeing from wildlife. The cats were fed and loved by the man, but otherwise suffered from the usual forms of benign neglect. Captain and Tennille stood out from the rest because they suffering from an eye infection. Tennille also has this crazy tail that loops up over her back like a Samoyd and at the time she was trailed by 2 adorable little kittens who had the same eye infection. [The kittens were immediately treated with antibiotics and the infection quickly resolved. Such conditions, you see, are easily managed when you step in with the right treatment.] With Captain and Tennille, one eye had to be surgically removed, but the other eye is just fine and dandy. Between the two of them, they have one complete set. You might say they've got eachother's backs – er – sides!

In their foster home, Captain and Tennille have blossomed into demonstrably affectionate house cats. They crave affection and seek it out at every opportunity. They get along well with the other cats in the home, although their preferred company is each other. They enjoy wrestling with Tennille usually getting the upper hand. They're happy, curious, sweet cats that love to be loved.

Captain and Tennille have been fixed, tested for feline diseases, treated for parasites and their eyes properly treated. These little survivors deserve a shot at a good home and a long life, where they will receive the care and affection they crave. An ideal home would be one where they had piano accompaniment, plentiful hors d'oeurves and doting fans. A life lived well indoors with lots of Vegas-style entertainment. :)

Please let us know if you might be interested in offering a home to these cats.

for more information, please click here

Madeleine the lap cat needs a forever home

Madeleine was also recently rescued on a cold winter day from an abandoned colony of cats in north end Dartmouth. She tested negative for feline leukemia, has been spayed, vaccinated and treated for parasites. Here is what her foster mom says about this lovely lady:

"Madeleine is a real lady. She has beautiful soft long hair but unlike many long-hairs, doesn't shed very much! She is amazingly friendly and affectionate, and will be on your lap purring and asking for pats as soon as she finds you sitting down anywhere. In fact it is hard to type this because she is doing her best to lie all over the keyboard and my arms! Though she isn't a fan of sudden or big movements, no sooner will you have felt bad for scaring her than she we will be right back on your lap, purring away. She is instantly friendly towards new people. If you want an extremely affectionate, loving, and easy-going cat, Madeleine is for you."

Madeleine would thrive in a quiet home where she will receive lots of attention.

for more information, please click here

Maya needs a forever home

Maya is 1 of 6 extremely affectionate cats found dumped at a camp site off a remote hiking trail. She is a very affectionate and mellow young lady, who gets along well with other cats, dogs and children. Here is what her foster Mom has to say about her:

"Everything is going well. She sleeps with Mia at night and sometimes crawls under the bed covers. She is alert and always watching what is going on around her. She is a real cuddler and loves attention. She enjoys being brushed. She has no issues with my cats or dog.

I will get some pic of her this week and send them to you.
After her third surgery, this sweet little resilient girl is as content as can be. She is very affectionate and mellow, not fazed by anything. Juliette gets along very well with other animals. Here is the latest update from her foster mom:

Frances has a huge personality and one life goal: to get your attention. She is especially good at sitting on whatever you are trying to look at - your computer, your book, your desk - until you give in and pet her. She never resorts to negative attention-getting, but she will try just about everything else. She will come running to the door when you get home, and follow you from room to room (especially if you haven't fed her dinner yet!) She knows when you are feeling down and will come try to cheer you up. She likes to nap curled up with you, but only for short periods of time - she is still half-kitten and has lots of energy!

Miriam also has a great personality. She is more skittish than Frances, and less 'in your face', but just as loving. She has the softest fur you will ever feel on a cat. She likes napping in funny places, like your sweater drawer. Both Frances and Miriam know their names and will come when you call. They love to know everything that's going on in the house, and will stake out the best spots to make sure they know what you're up to. If you take too long in the shower they will get worried, and when you open the door you'll find them waiting just outside the bathroom door! Frances will stick her head around the shower curtain if you let her, she is so eager to spend time with you. Miriam and Frances like to sleep in their cat bed with their paws around eachother. Sometimes they have little fights (they are sisters after all!) but they always make up and groom eachother after. They love to play crazily with their toys (though they are far too refined to do it while they think you're watching!) Overall, Frances and Miriam are a delightful pair of cats. They are extremely low-maintenance, and will just as easily amuse eachother as need your attention, for example if you have to be away all day for work. They are indoor cats and not at all eager to escape into the Outside World. They are both perfectly litter-trained.

They really are such wonderful cats - anybody would be lucky to have them."

for more information, please click here

Greycie & Galaxie need a forever home

These 2 gorgeous girls were found abandoned in a colony near an apartment complex in Dartmouth. They are shy, but very affectionate once they get to know you. They have beautiful silky coats and are very neat and tidy in the litter box. They tested negative for feline leukemia and have been spayed, vaccinated and treated for parasites.

Here is a recent update from their foster parents:

"They are very loving to each other and cuddle together all the time (as you will see in the pictures). They like to play together and are rarely seen without each other. They like to play more in the night and they love chasing the laser pointer in the dark across the apartment. They have not once puked or had a hairball since we got them at Thanksgiving."

" Tonight when I went in the room to get some food for my guys, it was dark because the light is burnt out. So I was blundering around, expecting them to hide in the closet, but they were out and about, coming up to me for pats when I called them. I scooped up Galaxie, and held her for a very peaceful few minutes and she was so good I thought I might be holding Eliza, thinking she might have followed me in. Nope, it was Galaxie!
So I sat down for a late night visit, and they came up to me when I called to them, looking for pats. Greycie let her tail run along my back as she walked by, then sprawled on her side right beside me. IT was awesome. Galaxie when to hang out in the closet, and I got out the mousie bell ball you brought. I started batting it around like my hand was a kitty paw, fingers closed, and although Greycie didn't pounce on it, you could tell she wanted to.
I batted it towards Galaxie, and then I waved my hand at her in that wobbly play gesture cats do. Didn't she roll over on her back, then reach out and softly touch my hand with her paw. It was so gentle and sweet. She wanted me to play with her! She was so comfortable rolling around and batting at the mousie ball."

Please let me know if anyone can provide these lovely ladies with their forever home.

for more information, please click here

Benedict needs a forever home

If you are looking to adopt a dog, but prefer the independence of a cat,
Benedict is your man. He is loyal and affectionate and loves hanging out
with his humans. He also gets along well with other cats - and especially
loves and respects "the ladies". This poor guy was left outside in a trailer
park to fend for himself -un-fed, un-sheltered, un-neutered and mistreated
by residents. His ears are frost bitten, paw pads calloused, all 4 of his
canine teeth were broken from foraging for frozen food in winter and had to
be surgically extracted. Yet, somehow, his spirit remained intact. It took
me awhile to gain his trust, but he now runs to greet me at the door,
looking for ear rubs and chin scratches - he flops over on his side and
purrs a gravelly purr, kneading his blankets and donut beds- in which he
wallows in ecstasy. He enjoys being brushed too.
He also has a playful streak - he loves playing with a string with a toy
mouse tied at the end and will bat balls I toss his way. And, he loves
catnip and the laser pointer. He would fare best in a quiet, calm
environment with no young children.
Benedict tested (negative) for feline leukemia, has been neutered,
vaccinated, boostered and treated for parasites and had a dental cleaning
while his canines were being extracted.

Please let me know if anyone can provide this gentle giant with his forever
home.
for more information, please click here
rug, kneading as he rolled back and forth, squinting and purring
contentedly. One of the vet staff said "he'd be happy just to have someone
look at him all day". So grateful to be indoors. He is a very passive boy
whose scarred nose indicates he may have lost any fights for food in the
un-neutered wild.
He tested positive for FIV, but is otherwise in very good health. He has
been treated for parasites, vaccinated, neutered and had a hernia repaired
These girls have since been tested (negative) for feline leukemia, spayed, vaccinated and treated for parasites. They are currently in foster care and are doing very well.
They have both put on a lot of weight and look extremely healthy now. Below is a previous update from their wonderful foster mom. Gremlin is the tortoise shell (brown) (age +-9 months) and Scotch is the calico (white with
orange) (age 1yr+).
"Both Gremlin (tortie) and Scotch (calico) are doing great. Scotch (calico) is making remarkable progress constantly. She is starting to play, run around and be silly without any coaxing. She's now able to handle someone picking her up without growling or protest, but she's still quite picky with
what kind of attention she wants and when. She really njoys sitting on the arm rests of the love seat in the kitchen and batting people (without claws) when they walk by. I learned she just wants someone to play with her in
those moments, and not to be patted or pickup up. She does crawl up on all of our laps and lays on our chest more too, but mostly just with 2 of the roommates.
Scotch (calico) is also being far friendlier with Gremlin (tortie) than I imagined. They play together, groom one another and sleep together, sometimes both at the foot of the bed. Gremlin is now more apt to be around Scotch than just following me around when I'm home. Scotch sometimes cries for attention now, and Gremlin much, much less. They also both enjoy being brushed, and eat all the foods placed in front of them--no preferences anymore!
Scotch does need more stimulation than I expected, so whomever takes the girls should be someone that is willing to play with the cats every day. I'm starting to think this might be a calico quality. I also think they would both benefit from going to the same home."

Please let me know if you know of anyone who would be able to provide these 2 cuties with their forever home.
for more information,please click here
too.
This boy has now been neutered and had his initial vaccinations. He is ready for a home of his own. He enjoys hanging out with humans (he jumped on my lap a few times while I was at the computer tonight and occasionally rubbed up against my legs and talked to me). He loves chasing the laser pointer and writhing around with catnip mice. He's not at all concerned about thunder or lightning. A very mellow lad.
Please let me know if anyone can provide this big, handsome guy with his forever home.

for more information, please click here
This poor tom had a rough go as well and is so grateful to be inside with regular meals (very enthusiastic about canned food!). He too was discovered dumpster diving in the same area as the shaved black and white tuxedo. This
guy succumbed to an upper respiratory infection due to living out in the elements with no nutrition or shelter. He has been treated with antibiotics and is on the mend. His coat is beginning to shine already. His many paw pads (he has extra toes on all 4 feet) are calloused from living outside.
He will be neutered on Tuesday. He tested negative for leukemia and has been treated for parasites. He should be able to have his initial vaccinations this week too. The vet puts him at about 3 yrs old. He is an extremely affectionate boy and quite talkative. He reaches up when he wants a hug and will lean into you when you pick him up, looking for a kiss on the cheek. He loves to be scratched and will come when you call him. He is such
a mellow fellow. The vet couldn't get a good reading of his heart because he was purring so loudly during his exam.

Wharf kittens need homes

Two of the wharf cats we've been unable to trap have each had a litter :( One of them had a litter of 5 last year, moved them into the rocks & they 'disappeared'.
